Dielectrophoresis for Bioparticle Manipulation
As an ideal method to manipulate biological particles, the dielectrophoresis (DEP) technique has been widely used in clinical diagnosis, disease treatment, drug development, immunoassays, cell sorting, etc. This review summarizes the research in the field of bioparticle manipulation based on DEP techniques. Firstly, the basic principle of DEP and its classical theories are introduced in brief; ...
متن کاملA continuous high-throughput bioparticle sorter based on 3D traveling-wave dielectrophoresis.
We present a high throughput (maximum flow rate approximately 10 microl/min or linear velocity approximately 3 mm/s) continuous bio-particle sorter based on 3D traveling-wave dielectrophoresis (twDEP) at an optimum AC frequency of 500 kHz. The high throughput sorting is achieved with a sustained twDEP particle force normal to the continuous through-flow, which is applied over the entire chip by...
متن کاملContactless dielectrophoresis: a new technique for cell manipulation.
Dielectrophoresis (DEP) has become a promising technique to separate and identify cells and microparticles suspended in a medium based on their size or electrical properties. Presented herein is a new technique to provide the non-uniform electric field required for DEP that does not require electrodes to contact the sample fluid. In our method, electrodes are capacitively-coupled to a fluidic c...
متن کاملWireless on-chip microparticle manipulation using pulse-driven dielectrophoresis
A chip with which to manipulate microparticles using wireless power transfer and pulse-driven dielectrophoresis has been designed and fabricated using a 0.18-μm CMOS process. The chip enables microparticle manipulation under a 0.7-V power supply and a 13-MHz clock, which are generated on the chip by means of an on-chip coil, a rectifier, and a Schmitt trigger circuit.
متن کاملTowards Single Molecule Manipulation with Dielectrophoresis Using Nanoelectrodes
We present measurements of the scaling of the dielectrophoresis force with electrode size and particle size, in order to determine the ultimate size limits for dielectrophoresis at the nanoscale. To demonstrate the feasibility of nano-manipulation we present studies on the dielectrophoretic manipulation of DNA with microfabricated electrodes using RF electric fields. We find that DNA undergoes ...
